A cracked or collapsed drain doesn't fix itself. Left alone, the ground around it softens, and what started as a hairline fracture can turn into a sunken garden or a failed property inspection at exactly the wrong moment.

What's actually wrong with your drain

No-dig relining: when it works and when it doesn't
Cured-in-place pipe lining, often called CIPP or drain relining, repairs a damaged pipe from the inside. We insert a resin-saturated liner, position it over the damaged section, and cure it using ambient heat or steam, depending on pipe diameter and site conditions. The result is a smooth, continuous new surface inside the old host pipe.
It works well when:
- The pipe has cracking or fractures but still holds its basic shape
- Root ingress has damaged a joint but the surrounding pipe is intact
- Access is limited, because a driveway, patio or pathway runs directly over the run
- Excavation would cause disproportionate disruption
It's not suitable when the pipe has fully collapsed, when the bore is too deformed to accept the liner, or when root debris can't be cleared first. In those cases, excavation is the only honest answer.

When excavation is the right call
Some repairs need a spade. A fully collapsed section, a belly in the pipe holding standing water, or a misaligned junction that relining won't bridge properly. These need the ground opened, the damaged section removed, and a new run laid to current standards.
We keep excavations tight. We expose only what needs exposing, shore the trench properly, and reinstate the surface to match what was there. Estates like Botley, Chessmount and Great Hivings often have tarmac drives or block-paved pathways over drains, and the reinstatement is done so it doesn't look like a patchwork repair six months later.
